2024 NATIONAL SILVER FOX RABBIT CLUB ELECTIONS
The position for Three Board Members are open for 2024 Election.
Vernon Brown
I am submitting my name to be considered for a Director’s position of the NSFRC.
I have served as an elected member of the Board of Directors for the past 2 years and would be honored to be reelected and continue to serve.
I am Vernon Brown, of “Brownie’s Bunnies” in Kingsville, Maryland.
I only raise Silver Fox rabbits in my rabbitry, mainly for meat for our personal use and manure for our gardens. I do show regularly, and I find it a great venue to mentor new breeders (Hands-on) and build community within my region. Showing is also our way of showing the rabbit world and ARBA judges the progress our breed is achieving. I’ve always believed that it is easy to stand in your own rabbitry and think you have good rabbits…and you may have awesome stock but putting them up on the table amongst other breeders can teach you a lot.
I do take pride in only offering breeding stock from my rabbits selected as SOP quality that I would want in my own cages. It’s my name attached to my Silver Fox being sold. (Breed the Best and eat the rest).
I’ve been a member of The Livestock Conservancy for over 30 years. I truly believe that we are stewards of the animals that we raise and need to be responsible for preserving the hard work that has gone before us. I’ve been working hard with the Conservancy recently to help establish the criteria to see Silver Fox graduate off the Rare Breed List. I conducted a Survey in December to try and report some real numbers to the Conservancy’s Board. Thanks to over 270 participating Silver Fox breeders, the data was compiled and presented. We are setting the pace for all rare breeds of rabbits, literally. As a Board of Directors member of the NSFRC, I would like to work on implementing the Livestock Conservancy’s suggestions that will ensure our breed’s secured growth and removal from the “RARE” list. My opinion personally is: We may no longer be a “Rare Breed”, but I pray that the Silver Fox rabbits are always preserved as the amazing “Heritage breed” that they are. “We are one of a kind, since 1929”
As an administrator of the Mid-Atlantic Silver Fox Facebook page, I work regionally to mentor and educate newer breeders and promote our community to come out to the shows. My goal is to inspire breeders to raise good Silver Fox rabbits and show the world how awesome our breed is. If given the opportunity to be a Director for another 2-year term, I promise to keep doing just that.
Respectfully,
Vernon Brown
